Special function keys on the Keyboard [Failed]

[OK] everything seems to be ok
[partial] some part of the hardwareis working some not (yet)
[untested] I didn’t test this part yet
[failed] There are problems using this function

Installation of Gentoo Linux was quite straight forward to the installation instructions. I just downloaded the live disk from and followed the instruction regarding building a stage 1 installation. Also the general autodetect for kernel parameters worked very good.

The tricky parts

There are 2 problems with the Broadcom WLAN card.First there exist no direct Linux driver. I used ndiswrapper together with the windows driver. The card was now recognized But I could not connect to my accesspoint. I tried several ideas and found out that the card is disabled by the bios. In the windows driver you can tell the bios to activate the WLan card before boot or disable it. After telling the bios via windows to enable the card frombeginning everything startet to be realy working.

The Keyboard

To get the special key working I installed acerhk. Currently its not working due to a problem with the bios (again). I am still looking for a solution. In the last days I contacted ACER about the problem to get a bios documentation. The german support was not willing/able to help and just said “no support”. Escalating the problem to european support seems to help, but I didn’t have the time to answertheir mail.

The Aspire has a Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading build in. Currently the Hyperthreading seems not to be working. /proc/cpuinfo shows 2 cpus so kernel detects all of them. But starting the compilation of a kernel with or without -j 2 seems not to have any effect.

ACPI seems to work partial. Currently I get only the status of the AC-ADAPTOR. I am working on the rest.
